HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a widely used digital video and audio transmission interface that supports uncompressed digital audio/video signal transmission.
From home entertainment to professional presentations, from the gaming world to high-end surveillance, HDMI interface has permeated every aspect of our lives. Today, we will explore the types of HDMI interfaces and their applications, and reveal how it has become a key component of modern digital life.
Several common types of HDMI interfaces and their characteristics
1. Type A (Standard HDMI)
Features: Type A interface is the most common type of HDMI with 19 pins. It supports all of the standard features of HDMI, including the transmission of audio, video, and CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) signals.Type A interfaces are commonly used in devices such as TVs, game consoles, computers, and DVD players.
Size: approximately 13.9mm × 4.45mm.
2. Type B (Dual Link HDMI)
Characteristics: Designed with future high-resolution needs in mind, the Type B interface has 29 pins and provides dual-link functionality, but it is rare in the market and hardly ever widely adopted.
Size: approximately 21.2mm × 4.45mm.
3. Type C (Mini HDMI)
Features: The Type C connector is a smaller HDMI connector designed for use in portable devices such as digital cameras, camcorders and some tablets. It has 19 pins and has the same features as Type A, but in a smaller size.
Size: approximately 10.42mm × 2.42mm.
4. Type D (Micro HDMI)
Features: The Type D connector has been further reduced in size for smaller portable devices such as smartphones and ultra-thin devices. Despite its smaller size, Type D also retains the same 19 pins and features as Type A.
Dimensions: approximately 6.4mm × 2.8mm.
5. Type E (Automotive Connection System)
Features: Designed for automotive applications, the Type E interface features greater immunity to interference and a special locking mechanism to prevent vibration-induced connection loosening. It is commonly used for audio and video transmission for in-car entertainment systems.
Dimensions: Similar to Type A but with an additional mechanical locking mechanism.
