What does the dp cable connector look like?
December 16, 2024
There are two main types of DP connectors: the Standard DP connector and the Mini DP connector. The standard DP connector looks like a flat rectangle with missing corners and is designed to combine a right-angled trapezoid and a rectangle, and is primarily used to replace traditional VGA, DVI, and FPD-Link connectors and is compatible with legacy connectors such as HDMI and DVI.The Mini DP connector, on the other hand, is a miniature version of the DP connector that resembles an isosceles trapezoid, and was originally introduced by Apple in 2008, and is mainly used in its laptops, such as MacBook and MacBook Pro devices.
The DP interface is designed to replace legacy video interface standards such as VGA, DVI and FPD-Link (LVDS) and provide greater data transfer efficiency and compatibility. It supports the transmission of high-definition video and audio and can drive multiple displays with a single cable, which is useful in professional applications. Compared with HDMI interface, DP interface has more advantages in terms of transmission bandwidth and maximum transmission rate, for example, DP 2.1 has a transmission bandwidth of up to 80.00 Gbit/s compared with 48.0 Gbit/s for HDMI 2.1.
In practice, the choice of DP or HDMI interfaces depends on the specific needs; DP interfaces are more common in professional and high-end equipment, while HDMI is more suitable for general consumer equipment. Each of the two in the market to maintain a concurrent state, the future also need to face the competition of USB-C and wireless transmission.
